Circular economy is a term that defines an economic system designed to be able to regenerate on its own.

In a circular economy, material flows are of two types:

-the organic ones, able to be reintegrated into the biosphere

-those technicians, destined to be revalued without entering the biosphere.

Unlike the linear system where part of the material becomes waste, with the circular system a "resource" remains "always a resource" and creates the value of tomorrow's economy, in which the value of materials is kept and recovered as much as possible.

Design plays a fundamental role in the development of products that reflect the principles of the circular economy as much as possible. The development of a new product must take place following the principles of eco-design and taking into strict consideration:

-materials

-production processes

-disassembly

-recycling

-modularity

-repairability and maintenance

-replacement of dangerous substances

-reuse, collection and regeneration

-recycling quality

New businness models:

-Sustainable supplies or purchases

The ability to supply resources totally from renewable sources, from reuse and from recycled, recyclable or biodegradable materials.

-Recovery, reuse and recycling of resources

This model is based on the ability of a company to withdraw its product at the end of a life cycle to re-use it.

-Extended product life

This business model is based on the marketing of products designed to last over time.

-Share Platforms

Thanks to an increasingly advanced digitalization, in the last few years the platforms of collaboration between users by product groups have multiplied.

-From product to service

A business model that in recent years has been adopted for cars, IT equipment, streaming music and movies, sports equipment and which is also taking hold in other sectors such as clothing, furniture, objects, toys and packaging.
